About ENC

Opening the door of
learning since 2011

Educate the Needy Children (ENC) is a nonprofit organization registered in 2011. It is a tax-exempt public charity under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3). It is run entirely by individuals dedicated to helping poor and disadvantaged groups of people in Nepal. These volunteers accept no remuneration, which makes it possible to remit 100 percent of ENC donations to Nepal.

ENC strives to open the door of learning to poor and socially deprived children. Our activities focus on providing need-based scholarships to children who lack opportunities because of their financial and social status.

School attendance can be a problem for children asked to work for money to help meet their families' basic needs. Through scholarships, we attempt to overcome this brutal dilemma of work versus education. Parents must send their children to school regularly and ensure they study at home and complete required homework. We closely monitor student success.

Our programs

A multifaceted approach to education

Need-based scholarships
Cash and in-kind scholarships — clothing, shoes, bags, stationery — covering Grade 1 through Grade 12 for the most deserving children.
Personality Development Training (PDT)
A residential bootcamp twice a year, two weeks at a time — meditation, speech, math, language arts, and computer skills for Grades 8–12.
Intensive tutoring
Regular academic support and monitoring via the SETCO Learning Center at Bhattedanda, reaching eleven schools across Lalitpur district.
Food support
The poorest 15–20% of sponsored children receive substantial food support in addition to scholarships, addressing the link between nutrition and attendance.
